23rd February 2020 - Mogareeka
Kayaking; Jellat Jellat to Mogareeka
Meet 10am; at the Russell's driveway on Jellat Jellat. The Russells own the dairy on Jellat Jellat and are very generously allowing us to use their access to the Bega River. Their driveway leads down to the river through two private properties. We’ll meet just inside the driveway (as there isn’t room to park on the Tathra Road), wait until everyone is there and then all travel down together.
It is fairly easy to find; Tathra Road - 1.6km from Wallagoot Lane intersection if you’re coming from the Tathra direction and 1.6km from the Kerrisons Lane intersection with Tathra Road if you’re coming from Bega direction. It’s directly opposite the Russell's home driveway which has a prominent Bega Dairy sign out the front. Also it’s very close where their cattle cross the Tathra Road. Enter the driveway and wait.
The Trip; We’ll paddle from the Jellat flats to the mouth of the Bega River at Mogareeka with a side trip into Blackfellows Lake. We’ll stop along the way for morning tea AND lunch so be prepared for a full day’s paddling. We’ll have vehicles at Mogareeka to take the drivers back to their cars at Jellat. It will be an interesting paddle considering the recent rains, the effect of the fires and the fact that the mouth of the river is now open at Tathra. Adventures abound!
